None, dad built the place.
|
| What kind of changes did you or your family make to the
house? |
|
After my mom died, dad
started to remodel the home. He tore out the small galley-like kitchen
and expanded it into the dining room. He built a soffet on the back
side and made that the dining room. He expanded my brother's room into
part of the sunken living room and added french doors to make the
office. He connected the master and my room at the end of the hallway
to make the master suite and added the fireplace and bathtub pedestal.
Turned the previous master bath into a toilet closet off of the master
suite. Took out the bathtub/shower in the main bathroom in the hallway
and turned it into a 3/4 bath. Took out carpet and laid Italian marble
tile. The loft was left untouched. The basement was framed out with two
additional bedrooms and a living area. He had intended to add another
bathroom, closet and game room. The sun room which previously led into
the master and had a full bar was turned into a living room that was
open to the kitchen. The back door area was turned into a laundry room
and pantry room. In the back yard the trees were moved, sandbox pulled
out and garden moved. The hill to the left of the driveway was
landscaped. I think he meant to build on to the garage. Unfortunately,
all of this was started, but family turmoil caused us to run out of
money and the renovations were never finished.

I grew up in that house- born
and raised. My mom died there and my pet parakeet is buried in the back
yard near the east neighbor's fence. The neighborhood kids and I all
played baseball in the back yard, we cross country skied in the winter.
We used to play at the lake down the road and we'd ride our bikes from
the stop sign into the driveway since it's on a hill. I used to
practice ballet and gymnastics in front of the stairs that lead to the
front room because it had a light over it like a stage. My brother's
room was next to mine and we used to play mail man- leaving notes under
the doors for each other. There was a lot of love and a huge loss when
we lost that house...

| Changes to House |
We remodeled the interior
extensively, bathroom, all bedrooms, front room and dining room.
Replaced all windows upstairs. We did not remodel the exterior. The
property had a 4 bedroom house built about 1890, a barn, separate
garage, 2 outbuildings and the original log cabin, which became a
chicken pen long before we bought it. |
| Memory |
We loved this property! We were told
that the old cottonwood tree there was a meeting place for the Indian
tribes as they hunted in the area. It was 5 acres from an homestead
farm, they raised apples, pears and hay. Our kids loved growing up
there, they had lots of room to run and play. We had a beautiful view
of the fields and mountains south of us-streching close to 50 miles
away. It also had an outhouse, a fancy 3 hole model! |
| Other Information |
Well, it was home to many other
spirits besides us. I think people that lived there were reluctant to
leave it behind. The man that lived there right before us passed away,
and wasn't ready to leave. We heard footsteps on the stairs for several
years. There was also a sense that the Indian spirits came by to visit
the cottonwood tree, it was huge and old, and had such a presence in
our place. We heard it was a meeting place for the various tribes that
hunted inthe area. sometimes it seemed there were still meetings going
on. |
