The name of our house is The Wishing
Well Inn. It was and still is a prominent structure on Route 7 above
the covered bridge. Unfortunately, the house has had a lot of owners.
The previous owners severely altered the house by taking out all the
pewter sconces, painting the hardwood floors jet black, the walls have
been painted a dark (chalkboard) green; ceiling wood beams have been
removed, every surface (walls, ceilings, floors) has been severely
altered. The front door was moved, the house was lifted and/or moved.
Several light outlets have been covered over. All the wood detailing
has been painted over. Also one of the previous owners put aluminum
siding on the house. Another owner ripped off the siding and abandoned
the house. Thankfully, no one bothered with the windows (probably due
to cost than anything else.) This is the 'house' where people would
come to celebrate after their weddings, the CCC helped with the fall
plantings, there were big parties and events held here. Unfortunately,
we cannot seem to find a local who will share some intimate details
about the history of our old house. Yet every contractor that we have
ever contacted or had come in to do any work is familiar with the house
(most of them visited or worked here growing up), but no one will talk
about the house. In fact on any given day at any given time you can
spot a local driving by and staring at the house. Former neighbors
still keep tabs on the house. Some people have suggested that something
bad must have happened since no one is willingly to talk about or are
completely lying about knowing anything regarding the house, the
interior has been painted in such dark colors and robbed of most of
it's value and people still drive by and stare. Whatever it's history,
our family loves this house and we are working on restoring/renovating
it.
